Abstract

This research analyzes the forms of racism in the film The Green mile by Frank Darabont. The Green Mile tells about the experience of a warden who has a prisoner who comes from black people and has magical powers within him. This research shown the treatment of racist forms experienced by minorities. The purpose of this research is first, to find out the types of racism found in the movie. Second, to find out the resistance shown in the movie. This study uses a semiotic approach by Charles Sanders Pierce. The method used is descriptive qualitative method to analyze the data in this research. The data sources are taken from dialogues and scenes in the film The Green Mile by Frank Darabont. The finding in the research are first, kinds of racism that occur in the green mile films are internalized racism, interpersonal racism, and institutional racism. Second, the resistance that shown in The Green Mile films are closed resistance and open resistance.

Abstract

English as an international language is used in various fields of life. One of them is in agriculture. One of the important components in learning English is vocabulary mastery. Mastery of vocabulary is considered an important part of the process of learning a language or developing one's ability in a language. Proper learning is needed so that students are able to master vocabulary easily and correctly, especially UMN Al Washliyah students in this case mastering agricultural English vocabulary. One of the effective learning approaches is the contextual approach (CTL). CTL is a learning concept that helps teachers relate subjects to real situations. In this CTL there are seven important elements, namely inquiry, questioning, constructivist, modeling, learning community, authentic assessment, and reflection. The seven elements can be applied in the whole learning process. This research focuses on one element, namely the modeling component. This study used a single group pre-test and post-test experimental design method. There are two types of data analysis methods used in this study. The first is descriptive statistics (to analyze data based on frequency distribution: mean, median, mode, standard deviation, histogram, and polygon) and the second is inferential analysis including homogeneity and normality tests.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out how the functional scheme works in the story The Road by Cormac McCarthy according to AJ. Greimas. This research was examined using the structuralism theory put forward by AJ. Greimas. The method used is descriptive qualitative to analyze the source of the data taken from quotations in the novel The Road by Cormac McCarthy. The finding in this study is the functional scheme in this story has a stage of telling the subject in reaching the object which opens with an unhappy start, as well as the ending of this story which has a sad ending.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the elements of the novel which include the plot, characters and characterizations, as well as the setting in The Help by Kathryn Stockett, then to describe the acts of courage of Minny Jackson and Aibileen Clark. This research is a qualitative descriptive using a feminist approach. The results of this study are as follows. (1) The theme of slavery. The two main characters of the black race. Both have different characters. Background in the City of Jackson, Mississippi in the 60's circa 1962 to 1963. (2) Acts of courage Minny Jackson and Aibileen Clark in The Help by Kathryn Stockett.

Abstract

This study aims to find out what reduplications are contained in the novel “HAFALAN SHALAT DELISA” by TereLiye, which was published for the first time by Republika Publisher, in 2005. Novel “HAFALAN SHALAT DELISA” tells about Delisa (ChantiqSchagerl), a cheerful little girl who lives in Lhok Nga, a small village on the coast of Aceh, is the youngest child. On December 26, 2004, Delisa and Ummi were preparing for a prayer practice exam when suddenly an earthquake occurred which caused Ummi and Delisa's older siblings to die. The method used in this research is a qualitative method with a descriptive type. The results of this study indicate that there are 4 types of reduplication in the novel “HAFALAN SHALAT DELISA” by TereLiye, namely Dwilingga, Dwipurwa, Dwilingga copying the sound and Repeating or repeated repetition. The most dominant reduplication is Dwilingga with a total of 172 words, repeated words with a number of 107 words, Dwilingga copying sounds, there are 4 words for changing vowels and 7 words for changing consonants, then the fourth and the least finding is found in the novel “HAFALAN SHALAT DELISA” is Dwipurwa with findings of 3 words.
